What makes an Englishman feel English

by prydwen @ 09/01/2006 - 21:03:51

Today was launched Icons: A Portrait of England is a two-year, £1m cultural project funded by the government which invites the public to nominate the things they cherish most about England.

The top 12 nominations so far are:
Stonehenge
Jerusalem hymn
Routemaster bus
King James Bible
SS Empire Windrush
Punch and Judy
Angel of the North
FA Cup
Cup of tea
Alice in Wonderland
Spitfire
Holbein's portrait of Henry VIII

But what are yours? If you are English what makes you feel English, and if you are not English what tokens do you associate with being English?

My top Ten:

A full English Breakfast

Cup of Tea

Scones

White Cliffs of Dover

Red Telephone Box

The Bowler Hat/rolled umbrella

Chedder Cheese

Cider

St Pauls Cathedral

Lion Passant
